Dear Friends,

Please can I ask you to read this before filing it in “file 13”.

We’ve almost come to the close of another year. There’s no denying this was a difficult year for all of us. As Christmas approaches, and while you are preparing your joyous holiday celebrations with your family, I ask that you reflect on the joy and blessing of your life. Not everyone is so fortunate.

I don’t work for an organization but I am running an Old-age homes which accommodate our old-age treasure and supports desperate seniors. Yes, we do have them in Zimbabwe. Despite the many trials and tribulations, the homes and treasures living alone, have faced, they are still surviving……just.

The residents at Waterfalls Trust Old Age Home, still have a withered smile on their tired faces which doesn’t quite reach their eyes. Some of our Oldies, those, separated from their families by circumstances beyond their control, Christmas is a time of particular pain and anguish which they try not to show on their old aged faces. Yes, for some of our residents that were at our 2022 Christmas lunch, we have said goodbye too in 2023 and they are finally at peace and for those that remain, this may be their last Christmas. We try and ease the pain of these precious people by giving them a good day and make them feel a part of a family. Lonliness is a killer !!

As much as we would love to help everyone this is a virtual impossibility

The homes ensure that their residents are looked after, fed, take care of their health, and give them accommodation but the loneliness they feel doesn’t go away. We do everything in their capacity to keep them happy, safe secure and feel loved but we don’t always succeed. The Old age homes are having a difficult time keeping up with bills, increased costs and with providing all facilities and maintenance.

Christmas is a time for caring, giving and sharing and I would like to bring a bit of joy to these forgotten souls. I cannot do this alone and therefore appeal to you, the generous community, to come to their assistance.

This year we are trying to do Christmas lunch not only for our home, Waterfalls Trust but we would also like to invite another home in need, Melfort Old Age Home. We are looking at hopefully giving a small gift to 40 old people this year.

1) Waterfalls – 18
2) Melfort – 20

If we can give them a little hamper and/or lunch for Christmas Day that would be amazing. If we can’t that will be ok to, it’s been a tough year for everyone but we would like to do a small gift for each of them, which Santa will hand out, as well as lunch.

Lunch for 50 people (10 extra for volunteers, Santa and his elves)
Chicken, Ham, Beef, Pork
